Sweating Together

It’s a peculiar thing, I think: the camaraderie that develops in the sauna. Sitting there, with whomever you’re in there, as the sweat accumulates around you, it’s like your mind goes into emergency mode, and when you emerge suddenly you’re friends.

The other day, after I got done working out, I went into the sauna, and soon two girls followed. They were chatting amongst themselves; then I asked one a question about something she’d said. Soon, we were introducing ourselves, asking about one another’s lives and what we were doing in college and whatnot—and after fifteen or twenty minutes, we were promised to be Facebook friends. (I’ve yet to see the friend requests, but nevermind that.)

Then today, my girlfriend and I went into the sauna and suddenly we became best friends with this cheerleader who goes to USC; and while we were in there, some of the weightiest topics came up! It was remarkable.

I don’t know what it is (well, I do, but since this is a backpost and I’m too tired to elaborate for tonight…), but the couple that sweats together, stays together. ;)
