ThinkBlog Updates: Links & Happenings

Posted By Michael On 27th November 2004 @ 21:34 In technology &c., general | No Comments

After a work-week hiatus, the thinkblog is back in action. I hope everyone in the US had a good Thanksgiving, and that the effects of the [1] tryptophan are wearing off.

At the [2] University of South Carolina, things are cranking up to full swing, or getting ready to. In that light, you’ll probably see a burst of posts here on [3] ThinkBlog, because procrastination is among my strong suits (almost up there with pacing the floor and cleaning up obsessively when faced with large papers with near deadlines).

Some Worthy Endorsements

You’re not going to find ads on this site; it’s for fun, for edification spiritual and intellectual, and not least because [4] Information Wants to Be Free (oh yes, [5] it does). Nevertheless, you will find linked graphics to several sites and/or causes I support on the newly-touched up left-hand pane of the site. Here is a bit of explanation.

[6] Firefox is a phenomenal browser that is, for its agressively secure and sleek design among other reasons, a significant threat to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. I never realized how grateful for this one to be until I had to use MSIE at work: pop-ups abound! None of that with Firefox. And because it’s extensible, you can customize it however you like with quickly downloadable components.

[7] Slashdot is a news site for people into every kind of technology and novel scientific progress. When I was a kid, [8] Popular Science’s “[9] What’s New” section was a sweet shot of monthly nectar. Now, the fine folks at Slashdot keep me up-to-date on all sorts of topics, ranging from Linux to biotech.

[10] b2evolution is the blog software (PHP-based) on this site and many others. This great piece of software continues to improve–and it’s free! Check it out if you want to get into blogging. B2Evolution makes it easy.

[11] CompleteRSS is an online blog aggregator and more. As of this writing they’re in beta, but they are making improvements. You can read my blog along with many others (including many much more famous than I!) at CompleteRSS.

Take it easy. Next week will see more posts here at [3] ThinkBlog!

[EDIT 2006/03/15: Ads have unfortunately become necessary; I hope they’re not too intrusive.]
